A playground has to be safe underfoot on a wet morning with hundreds of children on it, which puts the emphasis on even surfaces and grip rather than on appearance. Trip hazards are what we look for first: lifted edges, cracks that have opened up, sunken areas that hold water, and worn patches where the surface has gone smooth.
We resurface and repair playground tarmac, dress surfaces that have worn smooth but are sound, and apply play markings, from games courts and running tracks to number lines and hopscotch grids, set out at sizes that suit the age group.
The scheduling matters as much as the work. Most playground jobs are best done in the school holidays, and those book up early, so it pays to get a date agreed well ahead. Where work has to happen in term time we segregate the area properly with fencing rather than tape, keep our vehicle movements to before or after the school day, and agree the arrangements with the site manager first.

Why we quote per job
There is no useful price per square metre for this, because these change the number more than the material does:
- Area, and how much of it is repair rather than resurfacing
- Whether the work runs in the holidays or has to be phased through term time
- The play marking schedule, priced per design
- Access for machinery and materials, which is often restricted on a school site
- Any drainage work needed where the playground holds water
Holiday slots book up early and are usually the cheaper option, because term-time work needs phasing and vehicle movements outside the school day.
